Couch to 5K update

Couch to 5K update

We are casually running into week 4 having completed week 3 of the second couch to 5k. There has been an amazing effort from all of the group, and I hear we may be rewarded with a little bit of sunshine and warmth next week…. Que wondering what to wear now.. Before I go any further with todays update, please all put your hands together for Carol Duly. This week Carol crossed the 5k line. We could not be any happier for you Carol. This is a fantastic achievement. Carol has shown a real dedication and enthusiasm for this challenge. 99% of the runs Carol has completed solo and lets not forget that this was in the cold, rain, sleet, snow & storm Christoph. Not once has Carol said “she can’t”, she has faced each progression head on, and crossed the finish line. Thank you for inviting me to share this with you.

Stewart continues to put a smile on my face, and gives me a little chuckle; this weeks run was 11.5km. If you would like to guess the distance of Stewarts run this week, or set him a challenge then comment below.Week 3 saw a big increase in the run time, alternating between, 90 seconds jogging, 90 seconds walking, and 3 minutes running. The 3 minute interval is double the largest interval yet, and naturally something our minds begin to convince us is too hard for us to be able to complete. We spoke about this in the group. Everyone has an “inner chimp”, based within the primitive part of the brain which works on emotions. Questioning us “what if we can’t do this”, “what if we fail” making us believe it is “safer” not to try. Recognising this as an emotional reaction, helps us to overcome this by using the logical side of our brain. Already, we HAVE achieved, we ARE running, therefore, we CAN do this…..we ARE doing this. This isn’t unique to running, or exercise, this is just as relevant to any change you choose to make in your life. The feedback from the group continues to be positive, the runs are being completed, and people are feeling great for having done them.

So Please join me in congratulating everyone on completing their third week, and show some encouragement as they head into week four. Whilst the course is now underway if there are any questions you have about your own couch to 5k journey or how you can start or are beginning to run …. please get in touch.
